Family First Friday - Celebrating Black History Month

  • Park Avenue Community Center 129 Park Avenue Swarthmore, PA, 19081 United States (map)

Connecting the cultural heritage of the past and the present we’ll celebrate Black History Month with special guest presentations. Join educator, local historian, community activist and collector Twyla Simpkins, founder/director of The Yes We Can Achievement & Cultural Center of Chester, who will share life affirming stories and videos of great American heroes ‘then and now’, and the accomplished West African drummer and teacher, Anssumane Silla, who will lead the audience in live music and dancing. Young and old can design a square for a group quilt discovering it’s significance, view a doll display, get hands on playing a djembe and more. Learn about black history in this interactive enrichment program that expands our worldview, promotes family engagement, diversity and inclusion in our communities. Refreshments after the program.

Geared for families with kids 10 and younger. All ages welcome. Reservations requested. Free and Open to the Public. Pay what you wish program. Suggested $15 per family. Donations are much appreciated and support PAC community programs in collaboration with The Creative Living Room. More information under Events at www.thepac.center. Location: Park Avenue Community Center, (PAC) 129 Park Ave, Swarthmore, PA 19081.
