PAC Center’s Spring Fling

Come explore the spaces of the Park Avenue Community Center and engage in an array of events and activities curated to delight and inspire. The CommuniTEA room will be open, enjoy lunch on the lawn available for purchase from Shutdown Barbecue, and listen to music and talk with friends. There will be opportunities to dance, make music, create art, and even learn the secrets baking. This is a fundraiser for the PAC Center. Admission is free, but a goodwill offering will be accepted at the door.


You are welcome to stop in anytime throughout the day for any event. Although registration is not required, in some cases, space is limited. Admission to limited space events will be given to those who signed up before walk-ins are permitted.

9:00 - 9:45 a.m.
Morning Yoga + Mimosas
with Mary Thompson
Great Hall (ages adult 21+)

Start your day with a gentle yoga practice, where we'll move and stretch, breathe and lengthen, nurture and calm the body, mind and heart. Then step off your mat to enjoy a refreshing mimosa. Bring your yoga mat to enjoy this perfect combination of Morning Yoga + Mimosas!

"Good Morning Spring YogAmi"
with Allison DeSalvo
Park Avenue Room (drop off ages 4-11)

Reach for the sun and wake up body, mind and heart learning yoga and connect with the wonders of the season through an interactive multi-arts approach using music, movement, partner and group games. Kids will explore vinyasas, breathing exercises and mindful meditation nurturing self-discovery, healthy fun, friendship and community. No experience necessary. Wear loose fitting clothes and bring a yoga mat if you have one. Some mats available.

REAL Self Workshop
with Nancy Martin
Art Room (teens)

An introduction to your REAL self. (Reliable, Empowering, All-knowing, Loving). Inner goddess, queen, authentic self, soul, intuition... Call it what you want, but finding it, amplifying it, and using it is the way to self confidence, strength, and control. It is this voice that allows us to feel valuable, seen, and beautiful. There are many things that get in the way of being able to hear this voice. Join Nancy in this one hour sample meditation/discussion about how powerful your inner self is and how to find her.

Musical Instrument “Petting Zoo”
with Keep Music Alive
Front Lawn (all ages)

Delaware County non-profit Keep Music Alive will be hosting an interactive musical exhibit that will include guitars, ukuleles, keyboards and dozens of different types of percussion instruments that children of all ages can pick up and play around with. Volunteer teaching artists will be on hand to help guide the children in what is often described as a “Please Touch Museum” for musical instruments. Community Portraits
with Andy Shelter
Centennial Room (all ages)

Andy Shelter, Swarthmore's unofficial photographer, has been taking community photos for years. You can “sit” with Andy for a *free* portrait session. No appointments, first come first served, just stop by. Chatting and hanging out is half the fun.

Donations are accepted as part of the PAC’s Spring Fling fundraiser. You’ll receive your photos via email after the event.


10:15 - 11:00 a.m.
Dance Me A Story
with Lisa Oster “Bunny Hop”
Park Ave. Room (ages 18 mos to 5 years with a caregiver)

Flex muscles and stretch imaginations! Oh no Bunny hasn't learned to hop yet! Follow Bunny as she tries to find her hop... is it like a Grasshopper? Kangaroo? A Sparrow? A Frog? Dance along to great music and help tell our story of young spring animals learning new skills! Dance Me A Story combines creative movement, dance vocabulary and storytelling.

Fundamental Rhythms Workshop
with Philadelphia’s Hip Hop Fundamentals
Great Hall (ages K-12th grades)

Students will amaze themselves as they learn basic moves and create their own choreography by exploring the American art form of breakdancing with Hip Hop Fundamentals. Created in the 1970s by New York’s youth, the dance form is an engaging and exciting way for young people to express themselves, have fun, exercise, build confidence, and work as a team. This workshop is designed to build self-confidence and reinforce the idea that you can do anything you put your mind to doing.

Wander into our Family Fun Open Playroom - young children and their parents can enjoy toys, music, books, playthings, and other sensory activity stations. Join in anytime for the craft stations, sensory boxes, play with balls, hoops, tunnels, enjoy storytime and music from Allison DeSalvo's World of Song.

Lunch on the Lawn with Shutdown Barbecue

Legendary Shutdown Barbecue will be grilling up hot dogs and burgers for purchase. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit PAC Center.

All Ages Art Project
with Quincy Carpenter
Parlor Room (all ages)

Stop in anytime between 12:30 and 2:30 to see what beloved art teacher Quincy Carpenter has in store for you. Explore and create with us!


1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Intergenerational Theatre Games Workshop
with Teri Lamm
Great Hall (ages 7+)

This workshop is really an opportunity for folks of all ages to come together and re/experience the power of play. Researchers are now documenting what actors and theater makers have always known-creative play deepens empathy, promotes connection, stimulates creativity, and provides pathways to personal growth and transformational change. There’s also some evidence that it literally keeps you young by growing your brain! In this workshop, we will focus on games that nurture community and camaraderie. No experience required, just the desire to have fun. Come play with us!

Hogwarts Hall @ PAC
with The Creative Living Room
Park Ave. Room (grades 1-5)

Enter The Creative Living Room's wizarding world by experiencing activity stations from our most popular camp theme. Professor Catherine Natter will be in residence showcasing several of most beloved wizarding "classes". Don't forget to wear your wizarding finest to take a photo in front of our green screen!

Dance Fitness
with Ann Cole
Great Hall (teens and adults)

Try out a free teen/adult dance fitness class and see what else is on the fitness calendar at the PAC this summer! Wear your workout clothes and bring dance shoes or sneakers for an hour of conditioning, aerobic, and stretch combinations that will leave you wondering "Wow - can a workout really be that fun?!" No dance experience required and all levels welcome - you can move at your own pace.

Rock Out
with Rockdale School

The Rockdale School in Aston will close out the day with a showcase of their best student rock band!
