Mindful Movement for Pain Free Walking

  • Park Avenue Community Center 129 Park Avenue Swarthmore, PA, 19081 United States (map)

Learn how to enjoy taking a walk with more efficiency and less strain using the Alexander Technique (AT) - whether you’re taking your dog for a short walk or aspire to take a longer hike.  AT has served as a unique approach to the re-education of dynamic postural coordination for people of all ages and abilities around the world for over 120 years and studies show that AT is effective for the management and relief of pain. Becoming mindful of our walking can improve our balance, stamina and power, allowing for greater ease and enhancing the joy of moving!

F.M. Alexander’s discoveries help us recognize and release chronic patterns of excess tension in our thought and movement habits and to restore optimal functioning and fully coordinated balance, poise, and self-expression in the activities of daily life (sitting, standing, walking), as well as in the highly skilled performance of athletes and artists.

Please come dressed for walking outside - weather permitting (with or without your dog).

$25 per person

Ariel Weiss has nurtured a lively private practice teaching AT in Philadelphia since 1988. Trained as a dancer and choreographer, she delights in helping people learn to move freely in service of their structure so they can feel and function at their full potential. Certified through Alexander Technique International, Ariel is also an active member of ATLP (Alexander Technique Liberation Project). Learn more at www.atphila.com.
