Plant Collecting in China
For most plant lovers, China remains a dream destination, filled with exotic species unseen or unknown to western gardeners. In 2010 Andrew Bunting, Vice President of Horticulture at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society made his first plant expedition to China. Alongside American and European botanists and Chinese scientists, they explored the wilds of Yunnan and Sichuan province in search of plants with important conservation status including one of the rarest maples, Acer pentaphyllum. This lecture highlights the importance of plant expedition work in China and how those discoveries introduce new plants to commerce and plant conservation.
