Embellished Jean Jacket Workshop

Use your own sewing machine to create a jean jacket with unique flair! Reimagining old-school jean jackets with embroidery, contrast stitching and patchwork is all the rage.

Come to this workshop led by professional costume designer and textile artist Susan Smythe and refashion a jacket in your own style using fabric, trim, buttons and more. After the class, you’ll have a great a new statement piece for your wardrobe and gain a refresher course with your machine and sewing in general!

* Please bring your own sewing machine, jacket, and the fabric and trimmings you’d like to use for embellishments. There may be some extra trimmings to share.

Susan Smythe

Instructor Susan Smythe was a child sewer and made all her own clothes in high school. As an adult, she became a professional costume designer and two-time Barrymore Award nominee, working at People’s Light and Theatre Company, InterAct Theatre, and Drexel University. At Swarthmore College, Susan was the resident designer for both theater and dance. Among other companies she designed for were Mum Puppettheatre, Tribe of Fools and the Berserker residents. Since 2007, she has run a small housewares and accessories company called Crooked Dog Designs. Susan has a particular interest in upcycling and recycling fabric and other materials, and enjoys making people comfortable with sewing!
