Introduction to Cyanotypes

In this workshop, you will learn all about the mysterious and beautiful process called cyanotype.

The cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic processes, developed 1842 as a way to create multiple copies with UV light. It is actually the original blueprint! Over the course of 3 hours, you will learn the history of the process and how to create your own Prussian blue botanical prints. All materials and plant matter are provided, but you are welcome to bring objects to experiment with (flowers from your garden, glass containers, jewelry, dried botanicals, coins, etc). During the workshop, there will also be time to forage for botanicals outdoors. At the end of the workshop, you will know the process and have many beautiful works to take with you! All levels welcome.

Emie Hughes is a mixed-media artist, painter, and modern dance choreographer. She sees all of her work as a choreographic practice, regardless of medium. In her paintings and mixed-media pieces, she is interested in translating the 2D to the 3D, and vice versa, on her canvas and in her own body. Her main inspirations are nature, the color blue, beauty of the process, her daughter, and the internal rhythms of the human body.
