Playwriting Workout for Teens

Ages 11 - 15

Brainstorm and craft monologues, stories and scenes in this supportive creative writing intensive. In a safe and peer-driven environment, campers will use point of view, improvisation and playwriting prompts to create multi-faceted characters in unique settings and situations. The week will culminate with a sharing for family and friends on the final class day.

Families will receive more information after June 1 and then a Welcome email on the Wednesday before the program week. Lunch hour is included. Please send a snack, lunch and refillable water bottle. Avoid high allergy foods.

New-to-Us teaching artist Kate McGrath is a veteran theatre educator and playwright. She has worked for Philadelphia Young Playwrights as a teaching artist for over 30 years, leading theatre and writing workshops in dozens of schools at all age levels, and is a three-time recipient of PYP’s Adele Magner Memorial Award. Additional teaching/directing credits: Darlington Arts Center, Theatre Horizon’s Autism Drama Program, Wolf Performing Arts Center, Walnut Street Theatre School, Walking Fish Theatre, The Shipley School, Holy Child Academy, Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy among others. She holds a BA in Theatre from UNC-Chapel Hill, a MA in Theatre from Villanova, and has additional certificates from the Folger Theatre Conservatory, the London Theatre School, and the National Theatre Institute.

The Creative Living Room is a nonprofit community arts education organization that inspires creative curiosity in kids and families. Founded in 2008 by four enterprising women in the arts, TCLR has become a space to try on something new. Our themed classes, camps and parties combine artistic and creative mediums.
