Learn & Grow!

10:00 am - 1:00 pm - If you want monarch butterflies to visit your garden this fall and spring, planting milkweed in your landscape is a must! Not only is milkweed a great nectar source for thirsty pollinators, it is also THE ONLY host plant that monarch butterflies lay their eggs upon.  Sponsored by Swarthmore United Methodist Church - visit the “Learn and Grow” table for information on these important plants and take one home to plant!

1:00 - 3:30 pm  - Natural loofah sponges actually come from the fruits of vine-growing Luffa plants. These plants are part of the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae) making them relatives of watermelons, cucumbers and pumpkins. When a luffa fruit dries out and is peeled, you are left with its fibrous interior, which can be used as a sponge.  At the “Learn and Grow” table you can crack open a luffa pod and discover the mysteries inside and take home your own luffa sprout to grow in your garden. (while supplies last)

Make & Create!

10:00 - 2:00 pm - Join the Swarthmore Public Library for an exciting project using pine cones to craft bird feeder at one of the “Make & Create” table on the front lawn.

10:00 - 4:00 pm: Enjoy spring in full bloom with Dionne Butler, The Mindful Craftier! Learn how to make stunning flower crowns and don your colorful creation all day. Suggested donation $10.

11:00 - 1:00 pm - Join girls scout troop (5336) for a fun project creating watercolor butterflies using watercolors and coffee filters at the “Make & Create” table on the front lawn.

1:00 - 3:30 pm  - Tie Dye T-shirts!  Get your branded PAC Center t-shirt, or bring your own and join us for a colorful activity using both natural dyes and traditional.  Suggested donation $10.

11:30 - 3:00 pm - Beloved art teacher Quincy Carpenter Campbell will lead us in an “all ages” community art project.  Inspired by the book Rainbow Weaver, we will create woven flowers from repurposed materials;  We will use textile scraps, old plastic bags, and bits of yarn on circle looms made from paper plates. Our garden will be installed at the PAC center, reminding us to always be on the lookout for unexpected things we can use to make art. Centennial “Garden” Room!
